City with No Sun
Nerd Escapes
Escape room
IRL
This is such a unique room. It is pitch black the entire time but there is nothing spooky or creepy about the room. You are given a panic alarm that will instantly turn on the lights (however it will also automatically end the game). It’s a fun way to use your senses aside from sight. If your team doesn’t like being split up in the beginning of a game, I would avoid this room.

Nerd Escapes
Escape room

This is a high tech room with no locks. Good immersion into the game. It has a spooky theme but there were no jump scares. The room is very visually appealing. I prefer a room that includes more searching for clues and in this room searching was minimal. I love the way Nerd adapts these old rooms and transforms them into something new.

My group is not very into spooky games but this one really wasn’t bad. Aside from creepy dolls and the occasional jump scare, it wasn’t overly spooky. There are lots of different styles of puzzles in this room so there will be something for everyone.

We enjoyed this room. The puzzles were challenging. It feels much more like a “Secret Lab” theme than Undercover Agent.

Thai might just be my all time favorite escape room. I loved how immersive it is from the second you walk in. There is some really cool tech in this room.

This is a great room. It’s my second favorite at this location behind Teleporter Trials. It’s very immersive and challenging. Our experienced group of 3 made it out with seconds to spare. I would skip this room if you have mobility issues. Stairs and crawling is required.

Great scenery and complex clues. It is very dim and does take the ability to crouch or crawl. We took two kids under the age of 8 and it was a little bit too scary for them.

This is a good family friendly game. It is linear. The clues are tricky and sometimes a bit of a stretch but we still had fun.
Star Ship Rescue
Escape on Purpose

As always at Escape on Purpose, the immersion and scenery in this room is great. At times we found it a little bit confusing what we were supposed to be working on or how to accomplish certain tasks. It also didn’t feel like the clues needed much brain power or made you think. I prefer a room that makes you think more. They were very willing to accommodate and turn the music down or let you turn on the overhead lights if you needed more lighting. You won’t find locks in this room and we enjoyed the next gen tech but also felt like the tech was a little bit hard to navigate. For example, it wasn’t always clear when something had unlocked. Overall, we thought the room was ok but it wasn’t a favorite. One thing I love about this company is that they give back a portion of their proceeds to charity.

While this is a cool concept, it was a very hot day when we played and our group lost interest. Half way through we struggled with a clue and no one was interested enough to keep playing (but this was mostly us just being cranky, hot and having a cell phone that was dying). It’s a great way to get out and see more of the Surf City area.
