The Lost Temple Of Yumiko
Trapp'd Northampton
Escape room
IRL
Whoever designed this room thinks like we do & we got off to a flying start! The decor is unusual, exciting & bang on theme- it’s really immersive throughout despite there being different zones. With a mixture of physical, skill & mental puzzles, good communication is a must if you want to do well in this room. Loved the variety of tasks (& fact there was only 1 padlock!) & whilst we supposedly fell into a couple of common traps, overall this was one of the most enjoyable rooms we’ve done in a very long time. Love, love, loved it!
End Of The Line

An enjoyable room which we struggled with to start as we broke rule number 1 & didn’t search properly! We needed a couple of pointers along the way, but overall the flow was good, some of the props were cool & what looks like a fairly empty set actually had plenty of puzzles to keep us entertained. Whilst a previous train room at Trapp’d was ridiculously dirty, this one is neat, clean & enjoyable with a lovely ‘on theme’ ending that really made me smile.

If there was a ‘meh’ rating, I’d award it here. The game was ok but had various (body) parts recycled from when this was Motel so it didn’t feel overly exciting or new. We spent some of the time confused about what to do when- our brains clearly don’t think in the same way as the brain that envisioned this room and we had to ask for clues a few times. A couple of things didn’t work & it ruined the immersion a little being told over the intercom that we’d just killed someone & they’d left us a note with a code on it- why not pass us the code on a note?! This is another room that’s murky- ok if you have the eyes of an owl, but not so good if you have any sight issues. We enjoyed this more than Cartel (mainly because we could figure out some of what we were supposed to be doing) but this still didn’t reach the point where I’d say it was enjoyable for me. This was a disappointing visit to Trapp’d Corby as we’ve had some really good experiences there in the past & this just didn’t live up to our high expectations of them.

This is in a space which used to house another game that we’d played before, so we had a bit of an idea about the layout going in. We hadn’t done an escape room for a while, and I don’t know whether it was that or simply that whoever designed the room doesn’t think in the same way we do, but we completely floundered throughout. We’d asked in advance that if we seemed to be stuck or going off at a tangent we’d really like a clue- but no clues were forthcoming unless we texted for one (the answer came back by text) & they weren’t always overly illuminating. We were supposedly close to the end of the room when time ran out, but there still seemed to be loads to do & having spent the entire hour floundering & feeling really thick, this just wasn’t an enjoyable experience. We’ve really enjoyed several rooms that we haven’t escaped from- but this didn’t fit either criteria for us.
The Rig

Beautiful venue & really good set with local flavour to the backstory. After oil drilling rigs were shot down at the end of WW2, refurbishment has uncovered one which must be made safe before it explodes- a task you have an hour to complete. The rig itself is on show right from the start but you have to go through a series of challenges to get the items you’ll need to complete your mission. There is light physical work involved, some steps & moving items about, but it’s not overly demanding for someone of average physical fitness. We’d read great reviews of this venue before attending & things which set high expectations often make me feel nervous that I’ll be disappointed- but that certainly wasn’t the case here.

This is a really strong theme & decor with a local backstory set in the very building in which you stand. You must navigate the building to locate the missing movie monk & find out what has happened to him. With quirky tasks which are soundly linked to the theme, this game was enjoyable & a great return to escaping after a covid enforced hiatus. We loved the final area & the main item in it, which pulled the fruits of all your efforts together in a very satisfying manner.
Gone In 60 Minutes

The room was well done apart from a couple of the cars being missing, which tarnished it a little. I think this room has now been retired.
Plaza Casino

You must make your way from the casino floor, complete with games tables, to the cashiers cage and then the vault in order to steal as much loot as possible within the 60 minutes. The shift from it being all about escaping itself means that as long as you reach the vault & steal something you’ll get a sense of achievement no matter how well you do, and makes this a great inter OSU Tory escape room. The first room is reasonably sparsely decorated, despite which it was still somehow challenging to locate what we needed to move on & we were kicking ourselves for not searching thoroughly enough & our slow wittedness having had a covid lockdown enforced break from escaping for some time before playing this room. I love casinos & Vegas, so this room was right up my street.

This felt like a privately run venue rather than a big budget affair, but the puzzles were fine & the staff lovely.
Menny & Pokol [Heaven & Hell]

This was totally different to any game we’d played before & has a unique & exciting way of getting from 1 part of the room to another. Top notch, but wear comfy clothing which you can easily move about in as there are physical elements to this room which you wouldn’t necessarily expect in advance. The set was beautifully decorated & stretched us working through it as a pair, but the experience was utterly enjoyable throughout.
