The Basement : A Live Escape Room Experience

The Basement’s Elevator Shaft was incredibly immersive. There was smoke, water, moving parts, buttons, switches, the whole shebang. Though the room was small, the 45 minute timer keeps you on your toes and working the entire time. Some puzzles are right in front of you and some you need to work for. Let’s just say I should have looked everywhere and read everything before I started some puzzles. I was completing the last puzzle when me and my partner ran out of time and I don’t think I’ll let myself live it down for the next 3 weeks.

Loved this room. One of my top for sure. I’m a big baby when it comes to scares, and this was totally manageable- spooky but not scary. Really interesting and satisfying puzzles that don’t feel like puzzles at first. Great flow and awesome set. This was my first at The Basement (my team had done the other rooms) but I didn’t feel like I missed anything by doing them out of order.

We were the first team to do this room when it opened and it made my top 10. Then we got invited to redo it when they updated it like two years later and it made my top five! I send everyone here because this room is that good, the reviews show overwhelmingly positive because it is. Every element, including staff is supreme. The puzzles are so much fun and the sets are pretty darn gorgeous. You really transport to Atlantis! My only hope for this location is they add a lot more rooms because they do them right!

The Egyptian themed escape room has been done over and over again, and this was a brand new business, so I wasn't expecting much coming into it. I was really surprised. The sets were pretty good, the puzzles were a lot of fun, and the owner (who was our GM) was really nice. She genuinely wanted to make sure we had fun and we really did. The game may be a little bit challenging with just 2 people. The puzzles themselves weren't too difficult, but there's a lot to do, so ideally it should be played with at least 4 people so you can split up. Great room/location. Highly recommended. Really looking forward to their next game!

We liked how the story felt more cooperative, and the experience was meant to be enjoyed together instead of divide and conquer. The set design itself was fantastic, has a Disney feel. The story felt like it was tailored for kids, but definitely enjoyable for adults. The puzzles are supposed to be enjoyed linearly, but there is room for divide and conquer if desired. Fantastic room.

Quest Room

We booked this on the spot after getting out of our first room Red Giant. There’s a “second room deal” wheel that we spun and we got $50 off for this booking. We couldn’t say no. The Perfumer has a dark storyline but is not a terrifying escape room. There’s definitely a lot more layered puzzles and we did a lot of crash and burn on some of them. They’re not impossible. We were amazed by the production quality of the set design and props. Especially the perfume bottles. The layout of the space was well thought out. Our host/actor , Ryan, amazed us with his French accent when we started the room.

This was the first room I’ve done with Quest. It’s location is a little sketchy so I’d avoid this location at night. The first thing I noticed when we entered the room was the production quality. The storytelling from our host/actor, Ryan, elevated this experience! Bravo! The puzzles were great but but most of them felt more like tasks. It was definitely on the easier side but it was soo much fun and satisfying. We also love Egyptian themed rooms and there’s not a whole lot out there.

Steele & Christopher were amazing ^_^ They both gave 100% of their energy into making the experience real. This is the most immersive & frightening escape room Ive ever done…. I was absolutely terrified. I was more afraid in this room than when Ive encountered an alligator swimming towards me and sharks swimming towards me in real-life. I thought the theme was interesting as well. We escaped with a group of 4. Out of 86 escape rooms Ive played, this is my new #1. I didn’t think any room could move “Pins & Needles” to 2nd place, but … this experience made me ….very aware of being alive …. It forced me into the present… and kept me there …. whereas other rooms allow you to dip into lulls

Our GM Frank was a delight to have running our game. The game had very immersive set design and great puzzles that are integrated into the side. We loved those moments where we thought "they don't actually want us to ___ do they?" but the answer was yes and we were rewarded for it.

I was extremely immersed in the prison escape scenario, the set design was perfect given the story. As a group of two, we did not end up escaping, I suggest maybe a group of three minimum. The GM did a wonderful job. Definitely going back to do another.

Love this company in general but this was one of my favorite rooms I’ve done with them. It’s well designed and has great production value. Loved everything from beginning to end. Puzzles are a bit on the easier side and are pretty clear / straightforward so if you’re an escape room regular you should be able to get through these with no hints.

Whatever Happened To The Garretts?

Few rooms manage to have the trifecta of elegant puzzle design, intriguing story, and immersive set design like “Whatever Happened to the Garretts?” The room is completely devoid of red herrings. Everything uses real-world logic in a satisfying way. The solves are clean and thoughtful. The story is dynamic and engaging without relying on text or tremendous amounts of monologue. The set opens up in surprising and delightful ways. This room has mastered the balance between struggle and satisfaction. It’s a masterclass in design. Play this immediately!

The Nest [Immersive Theatre]
  • Escape room
  • IRL

The Nest is an emotional rollercoaster that surrounds you with the ephemera of a person’s life as you experience the highs and lows of their story. In terms of puzzles, there’s maybe two or three interactions that qualify; however, if you are looking for a game, you’re missing the point. The set is abstract, ever-morphing, deeply immersive (smells, smoke, and a variety of intimate scenes), and yet truly easy to follow. Your next step is obvious, but the experiences that await you never are. The Nest marks a way forward for escape rooms: emotion catharsis and truly impactful lessons delivered through immersive environments and intentional interactions. This should really be saved for one person or a close couple. Leave groups for the escape rooms. You may cry. You’ll almost certainly feel something profound. You will definitely remember The Nest long after you visit.

Amnesia is yet another unique and immersive horror/comedy adventure by Quest Room and was a blast to play! We accidentally skipped a puzzle which resulted in a kink in the narrative, so my one criticism would be that the flow should be tighter so that game play cannot move forward unless this puzzle is completed. However, all was cleared up in the end and we appreciated the one-of-a-kind story. Highly recommend!

This is the MUST DO room for everyone - and great for for families and groups of 4-8. We’ve done about 40 rooms and my sons (15 & 17) both said this was one of their all time favorites.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
