“RESIDEEEENT EEEEVIL! This escape room was a love letter to the games, and one of the best I’ve played at Panic Escape Rooms. It’s very lock-heavy, and you really need to have good eyes to find things in the dark. You get flashlights, but we struggled over silly small things because we weren’t observant enough in the darkness. As the games’ survival horror theme would imply, this room is scary with blood, zombies, and dismembered body parts littered about. There is only really one real jump scare though and it isn’t too bad honestly. Even though I get scared easily, this didn’t frighten me as much as I thought it would. Which is a good thing in my book! The dark bloody room is immersion enough! The use of source material characters and music was a great touch, and made me feel like I was in the games! There’s even a semi-action part that was insanely clever. Room was a little glitchy, and we ended up skipping some puzzles. But overall recommended for fans especially! STAAAARSSSS!”

“Really cool room. Tons of puzzles that make sense. It was refreshing to see some number/math puzzles that I used to love in school but never really see in escape rooms. Definitely got our brains going. Also, considering the theme is a Timekeeper make sure you know how to tell time…. We were embarrassingly bad at it.”

“So much fun and full of nostalgia. It’s everything you want a game show game to be and made me feel like I was playing games right out of 1984 TV game shows. Harder with only 2 people. There were things we were solving separately that we had to fill each other in on later, but that’s part of why it’s made for 3+. Great time!”

“Very fun, clever use of space! Despite its name and theming, it’s not actually scary, which was a plus for our group, who don’t like those horror elements. There is an eerie atmosphere, as well as good surprising elements, but no jump scares or anything bloody. There is also a story, which our game master had to clarify for us, because it was hard to piece together before the debrief. Also, it’s a dark room, but you get good enough lanterns, which are mostly helpful. Good set design, recommended for fans of the theme who don’t necessarily want horror.”

“VR is such a cool experience. This was my first experience with this level of VR. It’s mind blowing how amazing it is. I don’t know if it’s really an escape room as it’s more of a guided journey with a lot of things to do and points to score. Very enjoyable.”

“The puppet theater theming blew my mind. I like how integrated movies, movie scores, and the puppet stars themselves were to the room. It was just a fun place to be and entertaining to witness in person!”

“Very well-themed and funny with many familiar references and gags, new and old! I was really impressed by the quality and use of voice actors and animated scenes. A great experience for fans of South Park!”

While it may lack some of the upscale excitement of downtown, West Chicago is full of life, culture, and a number of attractions that are enticing to people of every stripe. If you find yourself visiting during the summer months, then Turtle Splash Water Park might be perfect for you and the family. Or if retro fun is more your vibe, then the Cascade Drive-In Theater is a must visit. This part of Chicago also happens to be home to some of the most original escape rooms in the whole midwest, and should certainly not be overlook. Whatever your interest, West Chicago is without a doubt worth a visit. You may one day look back and realize that some of your favorite memories took place here.
Chicago is the capital of the midwest when it comes to amazing escape room experiences. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Chicago in 2016, the great city on Lake Michigan hasn’t stopped crafting these immersive puzzle experiences. In fact, greater Chicago is home to nearly 30 different escape room venues and West Chicago has grown to rival its downtown neighbor as one of the very best areas for escape rooms in all of the midwest. Mafia Heist at Mind Trap Escape Rooms is a challenging game that is great for a slightly older player. The Game Master at CluedIn Escape Rooms is a fun game with some fresh ideas that can be enjoyed by all ages. Escape The Room Chicago’s The Theater is a tech-forward room that is perfect for larger groups who have played a few rooms before. With over 100 escape games in the area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
