Sad to say I did not escape. My first failure :( but to be fair I was playing with only one other person and it’s always hard when it’s just two people. But overall it was a pleasant experience.

I can’t give too detailed of a review because there were so many of us and our communication was so bad, I didn’t fully understand what was going on most of the time. But I will say I did have lots of fun! I’m a huge horror head and this satisfied my itch for paranormal horror. This room has no live actors and tbh I much prefer it that way.

Overall this was a pleasant experience. I came here on the day of my birthday (and yes there’s a discount: the seat of the birthday person is free as long as the game date is three days before or after or day of the birthday. You just book the room, upon arrival you show ID and they will refund the money within a few days) and I had a lively time. Our GM Isaiah (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was amazing and vibed with our group easily. He gave us a warm welcome, straightforward intro, and good clues. He even took our picture afterwards in the lobby. I came in expecting a cool vampire adventure and came out feeling like a played a pretty satisfying DND campaign. Def recommend for players looking for a spooky adventure, but not pee-your-pants-horror.

Every escape room. Every haunt. Ever.

Gameplay

This room is nonlinear so it was pretty easy to divy up the workload and solve multiple things at once. Not saying that actually solving them was easy, but the layout was pretty straightforward. We were able to quickly understand what is/isn’t a puzzle and where things went and what was missing. Honestly these were some of the coolest and unique puzzles I’ve seen yet.

Atmosphere

The set design overall was pretty basic, BUT the design of the props and puzzles themselves were so cool. There was like ONE puzzle that felt KINDA out of place. I don’t want to spoil the room so I won’t mention what exactly it was, and it’s honestly not that big of a deal. Just more like “hm that’s weird” and you move on lol. One prop legitimately felt and looked so real I refused to go near it for a min or two. The room isn’t the most immersive, but gets the job done well as you forget that just outside of the door you came from is nothing but plain white hallways in a building somewhere in Pomona. In terms of special effects there isn’t anything SUPER fancy, but there are some cool sound queues and degústalo visual effects.

Customer service

Gm (Isaiah) was AMAZING. Vibed with us super well and made the whole process super easy. Greeted us nicely, intro was straightforward and informative, and clues given were extremely helpful. It definitely felt like they were paying attention as they didn’t ask us where we are on the puzzle, they just knew. I also called ahead of time a few hours prior to ask questions about the booking process and they were so nice and informative.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

Actually yes! It felt like a DND adventure honestly. Like, not high fantasy, but dark adventure. It successfully pulled of a creepy and unsettling vibe without being scary. This is a good thing if you’re not in the mood for pee-your-pants-horror, but still want to be in a spooky environment.

Story

At first the plot felt detached, but I’ll chalk it down to me being stupid because going in I was coming down from an anxiety high from driving on the freeway. But the more I played the more I realized, “holy shit this is just a DND campaign” and I felt in love. I originally booked the room because I fucking LOVE vampires and I grew to love the room more because of the DND vibe I got. To clarify, this is not marketed as a DND-like room, but an adventure room. This is just my nerd brain making connections to familiar things to me. It going back to the story, it is simplistic in premise, but does just the right amount of work to help you get into the setting and mood of the room.

Difficulty

Hard

Okay so in my party there were a total of 6 of us including myself. We have all played at least one escape room before, but some have played more than others (tbh I think my group relied too much on me just because I’ve played the most rooms and I work at an escape room myself but that’s besides the point). In total I believe we only asked for 4 clues. Not bad because the average is usually 3-5 in most escape rooms. But HOLY HELL we DEFINITELY needed all four of those clues. There’s this one three part puzzle that was so mind boggling hard we spent like a little over 15 mins working on it. The game master said to us that we get unlimited clues, but that they “don’t encourage [we] use them in order to fully enjoy the game” honestly just ask for help when everyone agrees to a clue lol. But idk what my friends and I expected because the game is literally labeled “hard” on their wed site lol.

Game tech

High tech

There were a LOT of sound and light puzzles and very few physical number locks. I can count the number of physical locks on one hand. Now the tech isn’t HIGH TECH, but still pretty cool to interact with.

Ideal number of players

6

Honestly 6 was enough. I think the max was 9 in one room, but that would def feel too overcrowded. The workload of puzzles in this room was definitely designed for 6 people.

Scary

Spooky

even on the website they emphasize this, the room is NOT scary. It is definitely spooky, but if you’re trying to make your partner shit their pants, they have an actual horror room that you can do.

Minimum age

10

If your kid pisses their pants reading Goosebumps, then they shouldn’t play this room. Like, a four year old would find this room super scary because it’s dark and there’s loud noises, but I think a preteen could handle the spookiness of this room. There’s no hardcore gore involved. If anything it’s merely suggested through the placement of medieval torture devices in the room. Light blood in certain places, but that is expected in a room themed around vampires lol.

Was anything broken?

No

To my knowledge nothing seemed broken at all. Admittedly, some sensors are a little janky. You gotta move a prop around in a certain spot so something can trigger, or you gotta do a task multiple times because you were too fast or slow. But that’s a common problem in tech puzzles in escape rooms so I’m not gonna give this place shit for it at all.

Live actors

No

Physically active

Somewhat

There is a point where you gotta crawl or crouch through a medium sized space depending on how big you are as a person, but that’s it lol. Other than that you do have to bend down low to get things but it’s not that bad. If you’ve got bad knees or something take your time or have someone else in the party do it for you. There are plenty of puzzles to solve without bending down or crouching.

Accessibility

Anyone with a mobility aid will definitely have a tough time getting through the room. I wouldn’t recommend this room for someone with a wheelchair, walker, or some sort of scooter. If you have a cane or crutches you can probably get away with it as long as you can crouch for a brief moment. There are some puzzles that have auditory queues, but not all of them so if you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can totally do other puzzles. For the visually impaired, depending on how severe your blindness is, I would not recommend this room. There are just too many visual aspects to it. Few puzzles don’t necessarily require being able to see, but it’s so little that I feel it’s nothing worth it. For those who are colorblind, there are some puzzles that definitely have a color aspect you need to be able to see in order to solve. Just as long as someone is there to help you distinguish what color is what, then you should be fine. Or you can just work on one of the many other puzzles.
