Although John Redpath was a young and poor immigrant, he quickly became one of the leaders of the Industrial Revolution. Thanks to John, Montreal gave birth to many factories, plants, enterprises and, of course, the Lachine Canal. This artificial water course was the beginning of the industrial era in Montreal. The region’s economy flourished and it became a leader amongst North American cities. In the course of his life, John Redpath accumulated vast amounts of wealth. Upon his death, it was rumoured that he hid his most valuable possessions to be given to a decent descendant, should they pass his test. Only a true expert of the city would be able to locate his treasure. But all hints and challenges were gone. No one even knew where to start. Last year, during the renovation of the Turcot Interchange, workers recovered an old hidden chest containing a notebook. After a quick inspection, it was handed over to the Redpath family. Obviously, his descendants were the first to try and find the treasure. Soon, they realized they would need some help. That’s why they invited you in exchange for 50% of the estimated value. A copy of the notebook was given to your team as well as access to a specially created software named Brain Race. This program will help you communicate with the Redpath family during your hunt. So you are all set! Will you be the ones who, one and a half centuries later, will solve the mystery of the Lachine Canal and find Repath’s treasure?

We did this while we were killing some time in Montreal before our flight. I must say if you want to explore the city in a different way or are visiting this is a fantastic option to pick. You got to really work your way round the canal area of the city and truly explore Montreal’s history. We did not have a booking and just turned up and the GM was very accommodating to us and was very in character. We loved the information which they provided us. We must admit that some of the tasks make you look like you are lost but that added to the element of stories when we found the answer for us. I recommend this activity to anyone in Monteral for a fun day out. Took us 2 hours and we stopped for about 15 minutes for a coffee in between. Due to walking around there is a somewhat physical activity however there are always moments which you could should you wish to.
