This room is a puzzle gauntlet! We played as a team of 2, and we BARELY made it. You are constantly asked to think, move, and make connections. This is the most realistic sub game I’ve played, and it offers a crazy event halfway through the game that makes for a very memorable moment. Your brain will be very tired at the end of this!
Gameplay
This room is stuffed with puzzles! Even better, they used common puzzle elements in unique ways, so the solutions you’d find weren’t presented or earned in traditional ways. While the sub used protocols like many sub rooms, it didn’t rely on a run book (it used a very straightforward poster that was easily visible for groups of any size), and each instruction required solving a puzzle instead of performing a rote task. The pacing could have been improved slightly, as the 2nd act was the highest octane portion. That said, the puzzling never stopped, and the challenge never relented. The game has some level of adaptive difficulty, so at least one puzzle (if not more) can be removed or changed.
Atmosphere
It looked like an actual sub! There were many immersive, interactive elements, such as valves, a VR periscope, and a speed gauge. There’s a unique event that no other sub game I’ve played has ever done. That alone gave this experience a wow factor!
Customer service
Rebecca was a wonderful GM!
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
Story
This game isn’t about the story, but at least it has a hook, and the goal is clear.
Difficulty
Expert
It’s probably a still a hard room for 4-8, but this was INSANELY DIFFICULT for 2 escape room veterans. They only took away one puzzle, and we barely escaped (with 2 hints).
Game tech
Mechanical
There are a lot of padlocks, but there are some fancier bits of tech. However, it’s more about the novel ways you find codes than the tech. That said, by no means is this a Gen 1 room!
Ideal number of players
4
There is SO MUCH to do. I recommend 4 experienced players or possibly more for novices (though maybe I’d recommend casual players do a different room).
Scary
Not scary
There is a very surprising event, but it’s more exciting than scary.
Was anything broken?
No
Not broken per se, but one lock was coded backwards from how the numbers were aligned.
Live actors
No
Physically active
Somewhat
Accessibility
The doors are primarily configured to be porthole-style, but they can open up for wheelchair access. The periscope and likely many puzzles will need someone standing. No color or auditory puzzles, though!
Easy to find location
