Ugh, I wish there was a meh option on Morty because this room had some cool elements, and some really not cool elements. I play tested it, and recently came back to play the 1.0 version, with little other than some set dressings having changed.
Good: atmosphere, soundtrack, set design
Bad: Puzzles, Over reliance on story over gameplay, some elements of the set.
The flow of the room was completely linear, and it wasn’t always the clearest what went where. However, the worst offender was that gameplay stopped so you all could gather around and watch story videos that took several minutes and added nothing to gameplay, but were mandatory to watch since the game completely stops when videos play.
The set design is simultaneously really impressive and not at the same time. There are elements present that at first glance, are really cool, but don’t hold up to a closer or longer inspection.
The owners are really cool people, and both times I played were there and were very inviting
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
Yes, but not necessarily in a good way. It didn’t feel very escape room like, it was a lot more of an experience, and only a decent one at that.
It was almost all story, to the point of pausing gameplay to watch several minute long videos that have nothing to do with gameplay.
Both times I played we had approximately 25, and 15 minutes remaining respectively
There are 0 locks, which is nice, but it also means half of the puzzles are done on tablets and are fairly basic.
There was a bug with one of the game programs on the tablet, and the entry door wasn’t working, but the owner was really sorry about it and was trying to fix it when we got there.
