29 escape rooms
My experience started good, but went downhill fast. We were traveling through SD with our dogs and staff let us bring them in the room since it was too hot to leave them in the car. That was very accommodating. Once in the room, the immersion / theme was good. For context, I've done 30 rooms and work as a gamemaster in another city, so I have a lot of grace for mistakes. My group of 4 were all experienced, so we were not just lost players. Negatives: there was no clue system (or it was not working). We had to leave the room and go to the front desk to ask for a clue. They came into the room to ask what we needed help with instead of knowing what we needed help with. Then the puzzles were not flowing, so we had to asked for multiple clues almost each step. Each time the gamemaster told us what to do or even opened the lock for us instead of giving a clue to get us on track. We had to ask what she was doing to open the lock to experience the game. This was aggregating. There were a lot of locks in the room and many that were not used / total red herrings. One puzzle had the wrong lock, which caused us to skip steps, and they didn't tell us, so that caused confusion. After 1 hr we got so frustrated with not knowing what to do it just wasn't fun, so we just asked for her to walk us through the end. She was rude and condescending. This is the 2nd room I've done here with similar problems.
