Legend Of The Pharaoh
Escape NJ
Escape room

Escape May Overall: I have been going to Wildwood Crest / Cape May just about every year since I was a kid, so it thrills me that there is a really high quality escape room company in my favorite place on the Jersey Shore! This is truly a family operated business with the help of very close friends, and they are all incredibly warm and inventive and enthusiastic. Their rooms are very high quality, challenging, affordable, and inviting. I was not expecting as great an escape room experience as I was at Escape May This Room: This room could use a fresh coat of paint but I really liked it! I haven’t done many Egyptian tomb themed rooms and thought this one pulled it off quite well with a number of unique puzzles. But really the best part of Escape May is the staff. They’re all SO wonderful. Of the rooms I did there, I’d say this one is the best for beginners. A good medium difficulty with some fun reveals along the way

I was not expecting as great an escape room experience as I was at Escape May This Room: This is one of the hardest rooms I’ve done, and one of the very few I have not been able to escape. That didn’t sit well with one of my teammates but personally I like being stumped! The added difficulty comes in partially because it’s effectively scary (some jump scares, but no live actors!), very dark, and the ambient sounds adds a lot to stress factor. Many of the puzzles were multi-step and others I definitely over thought. But the last big one that got me really got me. The room was so well done though that…I didn’t care! Just go in knowing it’s hard as hell and may scare ya!

I was not expecting as great an escape room experience as I was at Escape May This Room: I actually haven’t done many medieval themed escape rooms, so this was a treat! Of the escape rooms I did at Escape May, this was my favorite. The decor is very immersive and the puzzles inventive. I felt very fairly challenged and my group of three (which included one newcomer to escapes) felt it well constructed for dividing and conquering. I highly recommend this room

5 Wits
Escape room
IRL
5 Wits Nyack in General: this company makes a big deal out of making sure you know this is “not” an escape room. But I actually think they do themselves a disservice that way! I’m a very avid escape room escaper, and I was VERY taken by 5 Wits! The immersive nature of each themed adventure here is extremely high quality and well done. This approaches Disney theme park quality, and that of my favorite escape room company: The Escape Game. The staff is great and I appreciate the reveals in each adventure as well as their cute intros, and that you get a score at the end (which for me helps keep it competitive even though you always technically “escape”) This room: this all feels very high budget! It’s really impressive. The puzzles are fun and active (you must move, maneuver, transfer objects across rooms, and then also play a big touch video game at the end). The last room is REALLY cool, but also quite tough if you don’t intrinsically think like you’re in a video game. For me, this was the weakest of the three rooms here, but that is by no means cause for a poor review. Also, love the Portal references :)

This is the most immersive “Egyptian tomb” themed adventure I’ve ever done. I always loved how the puzzles here incorporated teamwork. This was a very smart room and the “best” ending involves a very gorgeous reveal. I can’t recommend this enough

There is also a tunnel to crawl through to be aware of (but you do have the option to work around it). I don’t want to spoil anything, but this was the CUTEST intro video. Also if you have easily scared young adventurers, do be aware the final bit can be scary. Puzzle wise, id call this the weakest of the three I did, but only because the nature of the puzzles gave me too many cooks in the kitchen vibes. Sure it’s not an “escape room,” but I loved it
The Clock Tower
Escape the Room New York

This is definitely the best room that Escape the Room has to offer. Love the Steampunk atmosphere, and the puzzles are the fairest at this venue (I find the rooms at this venue all require very large mental leaps with major puzzles in ways that don’t always compute…this one is still guilty somewhat, and it only frustrated me here because I otherwise loved the room so much) Some math involved by way of time…goes without saying!

Loved this room! And overall, really love Clue Chase (3 of their 4 rooms are exceptional IMO). This room was ideal for our duo. As we’ve done many escape rooms together, it wasn’t a terribly huge challenge for us, but really well put together and flowed nicely and high quality. Some neat unique tricks with the puzzles in there too. Our GM Monica was outstanding.
Gold Rush
The Escape Game - New York

By far one of my favorite escape rooms I have done. Extremely well realized and conceived, with a fantastic flow. This room is also very puzzle and lock focused for those who really vibe with that. The room is also multi-tiered which makes it feel very dynamic, and little things like a scent diffuser in the entry room make it not just immersive but pleasant! My trio is very expended in escape rooms, so this was not particularly difficult for us, but the flow is excellent, and sometimes it feels really awesome to finish in less than 40 minutes feeling smart as heck “The Escape Game” overall is a super strong brand, and I recommend all their rooms as some of the best ever. Love this brand.
Houdini's Workshop

Walking out of the elevator, I was immediately impressed with the hallway and lobby. A lot of time and care has been put into comfort, spaciousness, and ambience. All the GMs we spoke with were also very enthusiastic and accommodating! What I loved most about this room were the unique clue mechanisms and associated props. Given the Houdini theme, there are plenty of locks throughout, but it’s not always keys you’re looking for. It’s a great variety of puzzle types, and many of them are multi-layered in pretty ingenious ways. Nothing felt unfair, with some great a-ha moments and surprises. I really liked this room (and company) a lot!
