“This was my first ever escape room and Angela (owner) ran this room and she was amazing. Friendly and funny and really welcomed us. Totally enjoyed my first game, great theme to the room felt transported back in time. Ended up playing all 4 of their games. New room (Area 51 and half) on the way and can’t wait for it to open !!”

“Genuinely love all of the rooms at The Escaporium so had high expectations of this one and it didn’t fail to deliver. Quirky theming with some really great ideas. Being a team of 2, it felt like we were in a real race against the clock at some points as the clues and puzzles keep on coming but we did manage to escape with a few minutes to spare. Highly recommended.”

“This room has a lot more packed into a small space and requires at least one member of the team to crawl through a tight space on multiple occasions. Requires a keen eye at times to spot the clues but a really enjoyable room. We did this as a group of two but you would probably struggle in terms of space for more than four people at the same time. Not scary, no jump scares, and no live actor.”

“Wow, this room is probably one of the biggest rooms I’ve ever seen, with rooms that lead into more rooms. Don’t let that put you off if you only have a small team though as the room is great for any number of team. Mostly designed to work individually on puzzles as you explore the rooms with the idea to collect as much loot as you can and escape in time. The set is awesome, the host was fab and a real fun must do room! This room literally has something for everyone!”

“Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the EPIC show that was The Crystal Maze BEFORE you go to understand its concept. No this isn’t a dedicated escape room - what it is is an amazing team experience, true to the OG show. There are some rooms/tasks with an escape room vibe (pick the Mystery style games if you prefer this) but there are also skill, physical and mental games. We played as a team of 7 and had the most amazing time!”

“I’ve always had a soft spot for a good pirate room, and this is a good pirate room! This is the oldest room at this venue but I found it hard to tell. The overall puzzle design may feel a little dated (nothing here will probably surprise you but old ideas still have the power to surprise) but they flow well and will test your overall puzzling skills. The theming and scenery is first rate and all puzzles are on theme.”

“Came especially from Glasgow to do the Viking Room due to all the great reviews it had in my Escape Room Enthusiasts Group and as we were so impressed, we managed to squeeze in this room too. This is a 90 min room which I love as an hour goes by too quickly! A multi room with non linear puzzles. Fantastic theming, great puzzles and impressive technology. We all enjoyed this room too”

“My partner was initially very sceptical about completing a Christmas themed room in the middle of spring but along we went and even the Grinch himself was converted with this one! Fantastic theming and another superbly built set meant that this room was a joy to explore. With plenty to do, this one kept us busy throughout and had an extraordinary finale! Highly recommend!”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
