“Very well kept, lush, perfectly functioning room with great reception areas. Part of a series of connected games. Golden book for all those that complete without clues. Fridge magnet giveaway with team picture on it. Room flows well with some novel puzzles.”

“Definitely the best room at ClueQuest and, arguably, the one where the story is the least superfluous. This is the last room I played at CQ and the first time I understood that mr. Q is actually a mouse, because, for once, it is relevant. The gist is that you go through a shrink ray to reach mr. Q's office. So the room is beautifully decorated with all manners of over-sized toys, gadgets and tools. Compared to their other rooms, it relies much less on keeping track of which codes you haven't found, which locks you haven't opened etc. In fact, it only has one lock and key puzzle, where the lock and key are appropriately sized, hehe. It actually flows good for two players because it is quite linear, and doesn't stretch your attention span quite as much as the other rooms. It is advertised as harder, but we actually performed better on it in terms of hints needed, compared to say, Revenge of the Sheep.”

“3rd escape room in London was a success! The Adventure Begins… is a brilliant nod to the film The Great Escape, sans motorcycle jump. Our game master Sarah was a wonderful host, and the puzzles and theme were fun!”

“Unique for 2 reasons - very non-linear; I don’t know that a room could have more parallel puzzles. Also has a unique scoring mechanic - breaking out isn’t an issue, getting the high score is. Integrated very well into the them - even the high tech components have tactile feel. The main mechanic of the game is also very WWII/war movie bucket list.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
